For Meg and Bella
WELCOME TO MY TRANSFORMERS SKETCHBOOK!
Here is a collection of my Transformers artwork.... ranging some of my favourite pieces from Panini Comics' Transformers Armada comic, to the work that I produced for Metrodome's Transformers season 3+4 DVD boxset (BTW.... a BIG thanks to Jane Lawson for giving me the opportunity to finally draw G1 Transformers. Thanks Jane.... you're a real star!!). There are also some conention exclusives here as well, including some Optimus Prime images that I produced for the 2004/2005 Auto Assembly UK Transformers conventions. I'll be updating this page with some more Transformers pieces in the near future..... (Let me know what you think by contacting me at transformersart@soulmaninc.co.uk) - Simon.

Transformers Season 3&4 DVD Boxset Artwork

Here are the images that were produced for the season 3+4 Transformers DVD boxset from Metrodome. The first one out of the six that I produced was Ultra Magnus, and is actually my favourite out of the bunch.... it was also my first attempt at cell-shading as well! I'm also really pleased with the Rodimus Prime piece as well.... as I actually wanted to make Rodimus look like the 'Prime Autobot', and not just Hot Rod coloured differently (something that both the comic AND the cartoon show did on several occasions!). All-in-all I'm really pleased with how these images turned out...... I really wanted to capture the feeling of the modern Dreamwave style Transformers artwork, combined with the old-school Marvel artwork. On a personal note, the Scourge pic is probably my favourite out of all the Decepticon images that I have ever produced!! The logos on the DVD boxsets were designed by myself and Jason Cardy.

Panini Comic's Transformers Armada artwork
My artwork from Panini's Transformers Armada comic.
A page from Tales Of The Mini-Cons.... a back-up story featured in Panini Comic's Transformers: Armada issue 9. This also happened to be my first published strip work. Inks by Bambos Georgiou. Also shown are my original pencils.
Target: Optimus Prime!
My pencils to the cover and poster of Panini's Transformers: Armada issue 8.
Convention Exclusives.
Armada Optimus Prime!
The legendary Autobot leader.... artwork by myself, and colours by Jason Cardy.
This piece was my first collaboration with Jason...... when I first saw it, his colour work just blew me away!
Optimus Prime Generation One!
The original..... and still the best! Again, artwork by myself, and colours by Jason Cardy.
This piece, along with my Armada Prime and G1 Galvatron images were also featured on Metrodome's Transformers Season 2, Part 2 DVD boxset.

RiD Optimus Prime!
I was comissioned to do this piece by those fine folks at Auto Assembly for their 2005 UK convention.... as their guest of honour for the covention was none other than the voice of RiD Prime (and I'm proud to say now my very good friend) Mr. Neil Kaplan! Here is the artwork in three stages..... the first piece is my original black and white artwork, whilst the second piece features my humble attempt at cell-shading (this was the version that appeared on the Auto Assembly convention exclusive postcards and magazine). The third piece is coloured by Jason Cardy, whose colours show me how it should really be done!! Insidently, I have a print of this signed by Neil Kaplan himself..... who loved the pic!
